About the Principal

As the Principal here at Morton Junior High School, it is my privilege to serve the Morton-Groveland community.  I have been here at Morton Junior High School serving as the assistant principal since 2006 and becoming principal in 2022.  I spent nine years at Tri-Valley Middle School as a 6th Grade English Language Arts and Social Studies teacher and basketball coach.

As a life-long Central Illinois resident, I graduated from Eureka College in 1997 with a Bachelor's of Science degree in elementary education and a middle school endorsement.  While I was at EC, I played basketball and was a member of the National Championship team in 1994.  I also graduated from Illinois State University in 2006 with a Master’s degree in Educational Administration.

My wife, Stacy, is a Math interventionist at Starke Primary School in Pekin.  We have three children:  Abby (MHS '19 & MIZZOU '22), Ben (MHS '22), and Katy (MHS '24). We love being part of this wonderful community and enjoy meeting our Junior Potter families.  Please stop by the school any time! My door is always open!

About the Assistant Prinicipal / Athletic Director

Hammond, Scott photo

In 2022, I proudly accepted my first position as an administrator with Morton 709 as the Assistant Principal/Athletic Director at MJHS. I quickly became a fan. Not only of the athletes, but of the students, staff, building, district, and the whole community. I am thrilled to be a part of this school district and a contributing member of the team at MJHS.

I graduated from Illinois State with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology and my teaching certification.  I taught multiple science disciplines at Lewistown High School for six years, where I also coached track and field, baseball, and basketball.  I acquired my Master’s Degree from Western Illinois University in Education Leadership before accepting this position at MJHS.

My wife, Haley, and I are the proud parents of our son, Grady.  When I am not watching our students compete in sports and other activities, I spend time with my family, on a lake, or the golf course.  I am happy to have been given this opportunity to be a part of such a great district!
