Welcome to our webpage!  We are glad you are here.  The White Team is an exciting group of teachers who is constantly looking for new, innovative ways to incorporate multiple teaching styles to identify and respond to the specific learning styles of our students.  We try to connect with each student so that they are stimulated and challenged academically, in an environment where they can feel safe and accepted.  Learning should be an ongoing process for both the student as well as the educator.  The education of children can best be accomplished with a coordinated teamwork between teachers, parents, students, and community members.

The White Team works together to create several interdisciplinary units each year that integrate the core subject areas around a central theme.  Some of our units involving the whole team are – a look at the decade of the 1930’s, a state project that incorporates the use of Moviemaker, our European IDU, a look at the Earth, and the Human body.  Fun and exciting activities planned within these units include, a popcorn viewing of the student-made State Movies, White Team’s Taste of Europe, a viewing of Discovery’s Planet Earth at the Bertha Frank Center, a Peoria Chiefs Game at O’Brien Field, and a softball tournament at Westwood Park.  Because our teachers are always coming up with new and innovative ideas, our units are always changing!  Individual teachers also work together to create several mini-units around more specific themes.

Mr. Swearingen
Geography/Team Leader

About the Teacher:

This will be my sixth year teaching Geography at Morton Junior High School and my ninth year in the teaching profession.  Throughout the year we will take a look at both the physical and cultural geography of the United States, Africa, Asia, Europe, and much more.  Our goal is a better cultural awareness by developing an understanding of the diverse beliefs and customs of our planet.  During the year I will also be coaching Cross Country, Girls’ Basketball, Scholastic Bowl, and Track.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions you have either in person, through e-mail or by phone.  I look forward to another great year of working with the best students in the world.

Mrs. Roberts
Science

About the Teacher
I am so excited to be joining MJHS this year!!!  I began my education as a Canton Little Giant and then earned my BS in Biology at Western Illinois University.  I am currently in the process of earning my MA in Educational Administration from GSU.  This will be my sixth year teaching... I began my career with 7/8 grade General Science in Metamora and then had the opportunity to teach Enriched Biology and Anatomy/Physiology at Richwoods High School.  Although I truly enjoyed each experience, I feel that this position is the perfect fit for me.  I am really excited to educate the students of my own community and I look forward to becoming involved in many activities!  I also stay busy with my family... my husband and I have two daughters: Isabel (4 years) and Ashlen (2 years).   I am sure you will become quite familiar with them, as they love attending activities at "Mommy's School."

Mission for the Class
My mission is to promote independent thinking and problem solving skills by teaching students to utilize the resources available to them (first and foremost... their BRAINS!!!).  Science is not about looking up answers in a book, it is about constantly questioning the world around us and actively pursuing the answers to those questions!  I hope to provide students with a solid foundation of the basic concepts of life and earth science, as well as the skills necessary to independently think about, and explore science in an organized and effective manner.

Mrs. Jones
Collaboration/Resource

About the Teacher:

I graduated from East Peoria Community High School in 1984 and Illinois State University in 1988.  I also completed my Master’s Degree program at Illinois State University in learning disabilities and behavior disorders in 1995.  I am starting my 20th year at MJHS as a resource/collaboration teacher.  I spend a large portion of my day assisting students on the White Team in the general education classrooms.  I also teach a 7th grade resource math class and a tutorial study hall.  I will be posting the daily White Team assignments on my teacher website.  All students are welcome to use it, but I may have some information posted that only pertains to resource/collaboration students. Mrs. Conklin, a resource/collaboration teaching assistant, will also be offering extra assistance to White Team students.

My husband and I stay busy attending the activities of our three children (ages 16, 13, & 8).  I am an avid reader, Christmas fanatic, and a collector of cookbooks!  I am also very active within my church where I teach Sunday School and am the coordinator of our Wednesday night girls’ program.

I love my job and am looking forward to another great year on the White Team.  If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

Mission

My mission is to help all students succeed and work up to their potential.

Miss Hasler
Language Arts

About the Teacher:

I am a graduate of Bradley University.  Graduating in 2004, this will be my second year at MJHS.  Being from Central Illinois, teaching in my home area is an honor.  Coaching is a new passion of mine.  I am the Freshman softball coach over at MHS, and I also work with the varsity.  I am a die-hard Cubs fan.  I love my sports, both playing them and watching them on TV.  I am extremely excited to be starting my second year at MJHS.  I look forward to getting to know the community, students, and parents throughout the year.

Mission for the Class:

The mission of my class is to widen a student’s outlook on learning and literature through providing a wide range of stories and novels to share.  Also, I strive to provide a positive and welcoming environment to all students.  Learning in a positive atmosphere is not only a path to success, but also a way to a better educational outlook.

About the Teacher:

It is my third year teaching at MJHS.  I graduated from Bradley University.  Currently, I coach 7th grade baseball, freshmen basketball, and MJHS track.

Mission for the Class:
To successfully navigate through the curriculum for the benefit of all students.  It is the instructional plan for the class that there is a positive learning environment where the students will be learning from the teacher, the book, and each other.  It is my intent to provide varied instruction as to reach maximum comprehension for all students.  We enter this journey as a group of individuals, but plan on reaching our destination as a knowledgeable, cohesive unit.
