My Class7th Grade - White Team

Welcome to our webpage! We are glad you are here. The White Team is an exciting group of teachers who is constantly looking for new, innovative ways to incorporate multiple teaching styles to identify and respond to the specific learning styles of our students. We try to connect with each student so that they are stimulated and challenged academically, in an environment where they can feel safe and accepted. Learning should be an ongoing process for both the student as well as the educator. The education of children can best be accomplished with a coordinated teamwork between teachers, parents, students, and community members.

The White Team works together to create several interdisciplinary units each year that integrate the core subject areas around a central theme. Some of our units involving the whole team are - a look at the decade of the 1930's, a state project that incorporates the use of Moviemaker, our European IDU, a look at the Earth, and the Human body. Fun and exciting activities planned within these units include, a popcorn viewing of the student-made State Movies, White Team's Taste of Europe, a viewing of Discovery's Planet Earth at the Bertha Frank Center, a Peoria Chiefs Game at O'Brien Field, and a softball tournament at Westwood Park. Because our teachers are always coming up with new and innovative ideas, our units are always changing! Individual teachers also work together to create several mini-units around more specific themes.

Math

About the Teacher

While a student at Bradley University, I was involved in multiple levels of education ranging from preschool and 2nd grade all the way to 6th grade! After earning my Bachelor's in 2002, I moved to the Chicago area and taught 7th grade Math for 3 years; I also coached soccer and volleyball at the middle school. After returning to my hometown of Peoria, I completed my Master's Degree in Educational Technology through Lesley University. In addition to teaching standard math and accelerated math at MJHS, I have also had the privilege of coaching Cross Country, Volleyball, and Track.

Mission for the Class

My ultimate goal in the classroom is to reinforce the seventh grade curriculum to increase student understanding and ability in the area of mathematics. We explore a variety of concepts including the number system, data analysis, proportional relationships, and geometry. Emphasis is placed on improving organization and management skills, cooperating with peers, and utilizing available resources. I hope to provide a positive, supportive, and comfortable environment so that all students have the opportunity to be successful.

About the teacher
I am the daughter of a dairy farmer. This is a very important part of my life because I spent my junior high years working outside with the cows every day with my dad. Seeing and experiencing the hard work of a farm life taught me that you can accomplish anything if you work hard. I truly believe Ralph Waldo Emerson's words: "nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm." You will see that in how I teach; I am excited about writing, speaking, reading, listening, and junior high!

I graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2012 from Bradley University with a Bachelor of Arts in English Secondary Education. I love studying language and the different varieties of the English language.

Striking up conversations with new people is one of my favorite hobbies. I enjoy reading books with others, and I believe some of the greatest lessons can be learned through Calvin and Hobbes. You will see me outside of class biking, jogging or at a coffee shop in town. Most importantly, I believe laughter is the best workout, and I expect my students to exercise with me!

Mission for the Class
In my classroom, I envision each student swinging in a swing. The swing is the dream: the one thing that will make the student excited, scared and giggly all at once. My job will be learning how English will play a role in each student's passion, encouraging each one to participate in our learning community, and driving him or her towards that passion.

Social Studies

About the Teacher
Welcome to social studies! This will be my ninth year teaching Geography at Morton Junior High School and my twelfth year in the teaching profession.  I am a proud graduate of Eureka College ’99 and the Olivet Nazarene University Masters in Educational Leadership Program ‘09. Throughout the year we will take a look at both the physical and cultural geography of North America, South America, Africa, Asia, Europe, and more.  Our class goal is a better cultural awareness by developing an understanding of the diverse beliefs and customs of the people of our planet.  During the year I will also be coaching Cross Country, Girls' Basketball, Scholastic Bowl, and Track.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions you have either in person, through e-mail or by phone.  I look forward to another great year of working with the best students in the world.
