My Class7th Grade - White Team

Welcome to our webpage! We are glad you are here. The White Team is an exciting group of teachers who is constantly looking for new, innovative ways to incorporate multiple teaching styles to identify and respond to the specific learning styles of our students. We try to connect with each student so that they are stimulated and challenged academically, in an environment where they can feel safe and accepted. Learning should be an ongoing process for both the student as well as the educator. The education of children can best be accomplished with a coordinated teamwork between teachers, parents, students, and community members.

 

The White Team works together to create several interdisciplinary units each year that integrate the core subject areas around a central theme. Some of our units involving the whole team are - a look at the decade of the 1930's, a state project that incorporates the use of Moviemaker, our European IDU, a look at the Earth, and the Human body. Fun and exciting activities planned within these units include, a popcorn viewing of the student-made State Movies, White Team's Taste of Europe, a viewing of Discovery's Planet Earth at the Bertha Frank Center, a Peoria Chiefs Game at O'Brien Field, and a softball tournament at Westwood Park. Because our teachers are always coming up with new and innovative ideas, our units are always changing! Individual teachers also work together to create several mini-units around more specific themes.

About the Teacher:

I am happily married to Kaylie Breaux, who teaches at Morton High School, and we have 2 young daughters. We have lived in Morton for 4 years, but this is my first year teaching at Morton Jr. High. I taught for 10 years in Peoria Public Schools before teaching in Morton. I received my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education with a Middle School Math Endorsement from Monmouth College. I received my Master's Degree in Teaching Middle School Math from Illinois State University. I am very excited about teaching in Morton and look forward to serving the students here at the Jr. High!

 

Mission for the Class: 

My classroom is a place where students walk in the door knowing that they are deeply cared for and respected not only by the teacher but also their classmates.  I am committed to building a positive classroom environment where students experience both rigor and joy in the learning process. Although I am extremely passionate about math education, I also believe a teacher cannot be successful without educating the whole student. My mission is to build students’ confidence, social-emotional skills, and overall character as we develop a deeper understanding of mathematics.

About the teacher
I am the daughter of a dairy farmer. This is a very important part of my life because I spent my junior high years working outside with the cows every day with my dad. Seeing and experiencing the hard work of a farm life taught me that you can accomplish anything if you work hard. I truly believe Ralph Waldo Emerson's words: "nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm." You will see that in how I teach; I am excited about writing, speaking, reading, listening, and junior high! 

I graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2012 from Bradley University with a Bachelor of Arts in English Secondary Education. I love studying language and the different varieties of the English language. 

Striking up conversations with new people is one of my favorite hobbies. I enjoy reading books with others, and I believe some of the greatest lessons can be learned through Calvin and Hobbes. You will see me outside of class biking, jogging or at a coffee shop in town. Most importantly, I believe laughter is the best workout, and I expect my students to exercise with me! 


Mission for the Class 
In my classroom, I envision each student swinging in a swing. The swing is the dream: the one thing that will make the student excited, scared and giggly all at once. My job will be learning how English will play a role in each student's passion, encouraging each one to participate in our learning community, and driving him or her towards that passion.

About the Teacher:

Before coming to Morton Junior High in 2016, I worked in an immunology lab at ISU conducting immune system research on bumblebees. The time I spent in the lab taught me tolerance and patience. Bumblebees are more stubborn then they look. I left my bees behind to pursue teaching and, though I loved my research, have not looked back since. Teaching is my life-long passion and has brought me so much joy. I feel it is important to not only learn science, but find a respect for it as you learn. Science is not an easy subject, but with the right mind set, it can be a fun one. I want each of my students to find some joy in science and have a fun school year that will be hard to forget.  

 

I graduated from ISU in 2016 with my degree in Science Education. I am currently working on my Master’s degree in Special Education. I plan to graduate in 2021. I am excited to further my education so I will be equipped with the best tools to help my students succeed.  

 

Mission for the class: Though science is important, I want each of my students to feel, my classroom is a place of respect, love and safety. I strive to help each of my students feel heard, understood and appreciated. Life is hard for a 7th grader and I want my students to know I have not forgotten what it is like to be in 7th grade. It is important to me, that all students feel accepted in science. I have experienced many obstacles in life which help me to relate to student struggles. My mission is for each student to feel I am someone they can come to during time of difficulty, so I can help them learn from their struggles and become stronger people because of it.

About the Teacher
Welcome to social studies! This will be my ninth year teaching Geography at Morton Junior High School and my twelfth year in the teaching profession.  I am a proud graduate of Eureka College ’99 and the Olivet Nazarene University Masters in Educational Leadership Program ‘09. Throughout the year we will take a look at both the physical and cultural geography of North America, South America, Africa, Asia, Europe, and more.  Our class goal is a better cultural awareness by developing an understanding of the diverse beliefs and customs of the people of our planet.  During the year I will also be coaching Cross Country, Girls' Basketball, Scholastic Bowl, and Track.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions you have either in person, through e-mail or by phone.  I look forward to another great year of working with the best students in the world.
