About the Teacher
I am the son of my wonderful mother and also a younger sister and older brother. My older brother Theo, his wife, and daughters all live in Santa Monica. I miss them so. My sister lives in a house with her cat up in the Lincoln Park by Chicago. I tell you this because it's important to know that I take with me my family everywhere I go.
I am married to my lovely wife Katie and back in December of 2010, we had a baby, a cool little dude named Finley. My world turns, if only just for them, and the love that we have we share again and again. You can find us at Eli’s enjoying the day, so please if you see us, come on over come over, and stay. Join us for a chat and soon you will see when the three of us are together, we’re the epitome of happy.
I left ISU with a bachelor's degree in English, then went back for two more so that I could be in a classroom to teach it. I've been teaching here for almost nine years and living in Morton for some time. I went back to school for a Master’s degree from Olivet University.
Somehow, somewhere, I picked it up along my way, the curiosity of our language and all that it conveys.
Perhaps it was in high school or college. I studied the minds of Hemmingway, Shakespeare, Huxley, Seuss and many more, then began writing my own stories that I hadn't read of before. I collected bits of motivation from here and there, stories told from old ladies with huge purses and old men with no hair, rhymes from Silverstein and Sarah Cynthia Sylva Stout, and stories with characters that during the day I would dream about. Nonetheless, I find myself fascinated with the human experience and the language that we use to convey it and, I admit, I like to have fun with it a bit.
It's from the beginning of my life, the middle, and the rest of every last part that I decided to become a teacher of language arts.
Mission for the Class
I believe that the classroom should be a comfortable environment free of any prejudices, hatred, and stresses that would otherwise infringe on the educational process. Upon crossing the threshold of my classroom all preconceived notions, expectations, and fears should be relinquished. I believe that class should function as a team effort competing in a realm of intellect and should bring about not only intellectual solidarity but also emotional freedom and social awareness. From a collection of minds and thoughts, the mission is to function as one great mind; as we learn from each other we find the path to truth and expression.
